The H.5 and H.5c in stock. What is the difference you ask...well to start with we use USA made Aircraft Grade Aluminum, which as you can see allows us to easily powder coat many colors as one can desire! The aluminum still carrys many of the same features as the carbon fiber HydroTail and some more! Now there are 3 positions to dial in your personal bottle position, it still flexes slightly as a super stiff carrier only stores the road energy ending with a rocket launching bottle, a carrier that has some give it to, helps to cut this rocket launching thing! The biggest difference is that there are NO NUTS (no wierd thoughts here) anymore! We use THREADED INSERTS to make installation a breeze! Now some people have asked us about do-dads for Co2 cartridges and the like, sorry but we feel that with 2 straps (INCLUDED!) that is all that is needed. For racing put your spare cartridge and inflator head in the tubular or just attach your bags to the back. These do-dads, while they may seem to make life easy only add weight, cost and undo bulk to the HydroTail. Keep it simple, simple is good. Retail price is just $50! Other systems seem to require you to buy the do-dads which only adds weight, cost and bulk! Why buy the lightest system only to gunk it up. These weighty options can add up to 1lb of weight that you just money to eliminate!

The H.5c features all the above BUT attaches to the seatpost holes that come on the Cervelo P2c and P3c. This industry FIRST model comes in white or black. Also $50 with straps! Both of the models are made in the USA still using our Patent Pending Design. As shown at http://forum.slowtwitch.com/gforum.cgi?post=1803517;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread its ok to turn the H.5c UPSIDE DOWN to achieve the higher bottle position that some people feel more comfortable with or may be more aero for them! So again the H.5c can mount in a low or high position. Same for the H.5....No excuses now for that Picky Bottle Position Triathlete!
Note, sitting far forward while using a high mounted bottle position can create a void of air between the rider and the bottles, the air has to go somewhere...Its this open space that could cost you time...
QUESTION: "Hey Beaker, How come you don't have a ton of holes for multiple postions for both the unit and bottles?" Simply because simplicty is always best. While a slight adjustment here and there may work for some, too many people will require way too much direction and at the end of the day, simplicity or K.I.S.S (Keep it simple st_pid) is always a good rule to follow! Thanks for the question Dan from Chicago!
The HydroTail™ project was started in 2005 as a way to further increase the usage and ease of use of a rear hydration system. With lightweight and ease of use being the #1 factors in the design, several trips to the San Diego Speed Wind Tunnel in San Diego, CA (www.LSWT.com) helped to refine the position so that an aero benefit could be acheived as well as an ergonomic one. Our lower bottle position came about through both an accident in the tunnel and just the ease of grabbing a bottle while in the aero position.
Carbon Fiber was used to make the HydroTail™ lighter than the other systems on the market at that time. A clear winner.
In 2006 Normann Stadler used the HydroTail™ on his record setting bike leg of the Ironman World Championships where he won the overall title as well. Just 1 year earlier, he had told me that he thought those rear carriers where foolish!
In 2007 Chrissie Wellington followed Normann's previous example and destroyed the field using her HydroTail and since than has won again and again!
In 2008 the Ironman win streak continues!
Since than, more Ironman events have been won on HydroTail™ than any other carbon rear hydration system! In 2008 the HydroTail has already been on the Ironman and 70.3 Podium many times. Erika Cosmor won both the California 70.3 and Ironman Arizona using here HydroTail™. While on the other side of the Ocean Donna Phelan also of Team TBB got 2nd in Ironman China.
New for 2008 is our H.5 and H.5c versions. We trickle down the technology and Patent Pending design to incorporate Aircraft Quality Aluminum to fasten a more colorful and priced model. Both of these models still use the same features as the original such as 1,2 or 3 bottle placement options, a low position for ease of grabbing the bottle and getting your leg over the saddle. With just two simple velcro straps(INCLUDED) you can strap your gear on the back as well and your off and ready to ride.
The HydroTail™ by use of standard water bottle mounting holes we can accommodate any water bottle cage and strap system so that a user may use the single rear ultra fast set up or the typical 2 bottle method. A three bottle option is also available for those who can never quench their thirst! Note:Normann Stadler used the HydroTail to set a worlds best Ironman bike split in 2006 and until than was opposed to such a device! In 2007 another person perfomed a similiar feet as well on the Big Island!
